Summary
This paper aims to examine both the political schooling of Turkish women in People’s Republic of Bulgaria and their participation in the political life of the communist state. The analysis is based on quantative data from three different segments of the elite of the Turkish population – the students of the School for active women members of the Fatherland Front, the representatives of the Regional communist party committee at the National party congresses and the Members of Parliament. The study focuses also on the representation of Turkish women in local forms of government in the region of Kardzhali and therefore provides statistical data for the participation of the subject in the respective collective bodies. The main purpose of this article, on one side, is to present the quantity of the Turkish women’s elite in communist Bulgaria and, on another, to examine the educational, social and political background of the member of this elite by summarizing the profiles of each studied group
